A.S.H.A. Daycare

The A.S.H.A. Daycare Facility is a happy gathering of people with early dementia (MCI Stage 1 and Stage 2) who look forward to a day full of fun and activities, socialising with fellow patients and enjoying life to the fullest. A.S.H.A. welcomes its inbound patients who are escorted by their family members to the centre to spend the day under specialised dementia care of the team of A.S.H.A. This ritual is a great relief for the family caregivers who get time for themselves to continue with their professional life and other occupations without worrying about the welfare of their elderly loved ones during the day.

How does the A.S.H.A. Daycare benefit Persons with Dementia?

We at A.S.H.A. believe in a holistic dementia care approach when it comes to Persons with Dementia. We have designed a specialised Daycare programme which focuses on all aspects of the well being of PwDs. We focus on Persons diagnosed with MCI Stage 1 and Stage 2. Our dementia care ecosystem consists of activities that are centric on the cognitive, physical, spiritual and social development of PwDs.

The purpose of these activities is to make them as independent in life as possible, to help them keep in touch with the world around them. It not only improves their daily functional ability, but they get a chance to also maintain their dignity by bringing improvement in their quality of life.

How Does The Daycare Benefits Persons with Dementia

Physical activities improve mental health, learning new skills, maintaining a healthy body weight and reducing risk of lifestyle diseases

  • Standing and Sittercises
  • For physically active patients, like posture care, joint strengthening, shoulder mobility, chair aerobics, heart strengthening exercises and exercises for blood circulation.

  • Pranayam
  • Simple breathing exercises like Bhramari Pranayama and Anulomvilom.

  • Laughter Therapy
  • A fun activity proven to improve both the physical and mental state of PwDs.

Regular structured cognitive retraining helps in slowing down cognitive impairment.

  • Reminiscence Therapy
  • Process of recalling past experiences, events and memories.

  • Memory Stimulating Activities
  • Games designed to improve recall of recent memory.

  • Sensory and Motor Skill Activities
  • These activities stimulate all senses, support actions of muscle, for improved coordination, alertness and concentration.

People with Dementia generally feel calmed, encouraged and uplifted by prayers.

  • Spiritual Songs and Hymns
  • These are played from their era for their spiritual well-being, keeping in mind the religious sensibilities of a diverse group.

  • Sleep patterns
  • have shown a lot of improvement.

  • Reciting mantras
  • are very soothing for the brain and they all participate happily.

  • Singing together
  • strengthens their speech patterns and a lot of positive changes have been observed.

Social environment has a great deal of impact on the development of Neurodegenerative disorders by delaying the damaging effects of Dementia.

  • Engaging conversations about their life and experiences
  • Encouraging patients to be vocal about their thoughts and feelings
  • Cultivating conversational and social skills
  • Caregivers maintain conversation by talking to them through various activities.

  • Having meals together
  • We observe patients readily conversing during meal times.

  • Celebrating all festivities
  • Festivals, birthdays and other celebrations are an activity done as a Daycare

Recent research is also focusing on non-pharmacological interventions like music therapy that can benefit people with dementia.

  • Music Therapy at A.S.H.A.
  • We use music to help improve mood and promote well-being of our patients. Songs from their era are played and members are encouraged to sing along!

Research shows that the music memory of PwDs remains intact, regardless of the stage of Dementia.

For people with dementia or other cognitive impairments, often those associations remain even if other elements of their memory are impaired and impacted. You could play a piece of music that holds meaning to them — and that memory is going to be triggered.

Proper nutrition is important to keep the body strong and healthy. For a person with Dementia, nutrition is important to regulate behavioural symptoms and maintain a healthy body weight.

  • At the A.S.H.A. Daycare
  • we provide our patients with the most nutritious of meals, keeping in mind respective dietary restrictions.

  • Flexible Diet
  • The goal for most individuals with dementia is to eat a variety of foods needed for good nutrition status. We provide in house, fresh meals to our patients that are wholesome and full of nutrition.
For individuals who may be on a special diet for other health conditions such as diabetes or high cholesterol, the meal plan is designed to better overall intake of food.
