Hope Ek Asha Quality Life To Dementia Patients

My 90 year old mother is suffering from dementia and we have been managing it at home with the help of a dedicated trained and very sincere caregiver. But this constrained our movement out of the house. Being the only child, my wife and I are duty bound to ensure that my mother is comfortable and has a good quality life. But our children and grandchildren are abroad, and we also deserve to visit them during their growing years and enjoy playing with them. So, we started exploring a trustworthy care facility in Delhi-NCR to take care of my mother. We visited several facilities but could not be convinced about the hygiene, quality of care and a well thought of program schedule that could keep the minds of inmates active thereby slowing down the bad effects of dementia. We also wished that there should be minimum dependence on the sedatives. The Affectionate Secured Home for Alzheimer  (ASHA) is among very few professionally managed facilities where the dementia patients are cared for with passion, affection and love. After deliberations with our children, We decided to try the facility initially for a period of three and a half months, during our visit abroad and instructed our trusted friends and workers to regularly visit and provide us their independent assessment during absence. This was in addition to the biweekly photographic and video updates illustrating the activities undertaken in the centre and a weekly health update received from the facility. In our assessment ‘ASHA’ lives up to their name. Everyone of their team lead by Dr. Chawla and Ms. Jasmine, the highly professional and dedicated team comprising doctors, trained ICU nurses, and well-groomed caregivers are fully dedicated to the cause of providing a dignified and quality life to the inmates.

After returning from our visit abroad, we once again evaluated the options with us and came to the conclusion that extending the stay for my mother on a long term basis was better than shifting her back to home with us. At home, we can at best match the quality care at ASHA but not the teamwork that is so professionally done at ASHA. Additionally, the seniors provide wonderful company to each other, which we cannot provide at home. My mother looks Happy, and we keep visiting her frequently. This I think is the best arrangement!
